Putting a positive spin on violent crime: when comparing the number of violent crimes, lets assume that each violent crime was committed by a different person and divide the total number of violent crimes by the population of the United States. It would show that .4% of the population committed a violent crime!
That was of those reported in the UCR.
According to the NCVRS: 2% of the population committed a violent crime. And... nearly 8% of the population committed a crime.
